CREST Awards
CREST Awards
The CREST Awards scheme is an education scheme run by the British Science Association for 5-to-19-year olds.
When we talk about science we mean it in the broadest sense possible, inclusive of natural and social sciences, engineering, maths and technology. CREST gives pupils the chance to participate in hands-on science through investigations and enquiry-based learning, supporting them to solve real-life STEM challenges through practical investigation and discussion.
It can be run in schools, after school clubs, other organisations or at home. CREST Awards challenges pupils to work creatively with freedom and independence throughout, they will have fun developing their problem solving and communication skills and links well to the national curriculum.
Six Levels to choose from
There are six CREST Award levels. To choose the right one, consider the age and ability of your students and the time they have available to do the Award.
Inspiring from Primary to Secondary
Inspire primary-aged students with short, hands-on activities that challenge them to explore the world around them.
Or empower your students to run their own investigation from start to finish – let them run the project they want to do!
Star, Super Star, Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards
The CREST Awards scheme is run nationally by the British Science Association, providing science enrichment activities to inspire and engage 5-to-19-year olds.
CREST Awards gives pupils the chance to participate in hands-on science through investigations and enquiry-based learning, supporting them to solve real-life STEM challenges through practical investigation and discussion.
From £1 per pupil
Cost for submitting project work for an award start at just £1 per pupil, rising to £20 for a Gold Award.
We encourage companies and STEM Ambassadors to link their own activities to CREST criteria, to give an extra sense of achievement to pupils.
Age appropriate levels for all school levels
Star and SuperStar levels are designed to be easy-to-run for children typically aged 5-7 and 7-11 years.
Children gain an Award by completing eight challenges, which are available to download from the CREST resource library. They also provide helpful tips sheets for you to use, explaining the scientific themes and offering guidance on conversation topics for your children.
You can download CREST Star and SuperStar passport templates for your pupils to track their progress once you create a free account.
Once your pupils have completed 8 different 1 hour activities, they can receive a certificate and a fabric badge for the cost of £1 per pupil.
